Pauline Clara Berg, age 84 of Warren, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Oakmont Sterling Assisted Living Memory Care Center in Sterling Heights, Michigan. She was born August 4, 1930 in East Detroit, daughter of the late Frank and the late Clara (nee: LeBeau) Stanco.A graduate from the prestigious Dominican High School in Detroit, Pauline was quite proud of the athletic accomplishments she achieved by lettering in the sport of tennis. For a student to attain to those heights in the presence of their peers and amidst stern competition is often a tough row-to-hoe as a teenager. But Pauline rose to the challenges and came away the victor on many occasions which earned her the coveted letter she wore proudly,…and always with grace. Not long after those high school years, Pauline's life took a huge turn down the road to romance when she said yes to the proposal, and ultimately uttered those famous two words, "I Do,"…and became the "blushing bride" of Marvin A. Berg. The two were married November 4, 1950, and began a life together that would include the raising of six beautiful children and the nurturing of a home filled with much love and caring. As the years passed, Pauline would not only grow in her role as homemaker and Mom,…but she also put that industrious spirit of hers to work and expanded her status to that of quite the "Handywoman" as well. When it came to repairing things around the house, she had dabbled just enough to know her way through a toolbox,…and how to use them, too! When she wasn't tending to the needs of family, you'd often find Pauline down at the church volunteering her services,…usually towards fundraising projects that involved securing donations for such worthy organizations as the American Lung Association, the United Way, or the March of Dimes. She was a strong woman who possessed a loving spirit and a keen sense of humor, all of which worked together perfectly to help loosen the purse strings and let the moths out of many-a-wallet towards the betterment of others. Whether in her fundraising efforts or simply lending a hand to somebody in need, Pauline was a special lady who just sought to help where she could and leave a smile in her wake.Pauline also loved to read, and it was almost always something intellectual or edifying in nature. Knowledge was so important to her as she lived out the human experience, and reading was one of the main stepping stones toward that end. Perhaps more noteworthy would be the accomplished writer she had come to be. Possessing a unique and genuine talent for the written word, Pauline's dip into the pool of poetry had been both a gift to all who consumed her art,…and also garnered her the prestige of having some of her works published. To write poetry is a gift all its own,…to have that poetry published is the penultimate "cherry on the sundae." And not just poetry, Pauline loved to share her writing skills with each article she entered into the church paper. And if that wasn't enough, she was also a steady contributor to her husband's artwork with the "Cartoon Capers" where she would write verses to accompany Marvin's graphics. Together, they were quite the tag-team of talent.Yet her talents didn't stop there. For all who were blessed to enjoy this eclectic character, memories will remind them of how much Pauline loved music. In the early days when her children were little, she derived a great deal of joy out of singing to them while strumming her ukulele banjo or playing the harmonica. As the kids got older, her musical creativity began to flourish as she melded it with her writing prowess,…which, now, produced quite the Lyricist in the family. Soon she was writing little ditties for all sorts of celebrations and events,…and everybody was singin' along. As her time grew short this side of Heaven, it was her music that helped bring her comfort and peace,…and what a joy it was to hear Pauline break into a lilt or two of "You Are My Sunshine" as bedtime beckoned. Telling a story of Pauline would be terribly remiss if not to mention her love of animals, as well. There was just something warm & cozy about the pleasure she found in the "furry faction" of life. And anybody who truly knew Pauline will remember what a craving she had for her favorite candy, "Licorice Allsorts,"…you know, those little assorted gourmet candies. They weren't for everybody, but they certainly were for Pauline,…and her loving children managed to keep Mom well-supplied with her tasty treats.A loving & wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, Pauline leaves behind a legacy of love that will reside in the hearts and souls of all who were blessed to know her, and whose lives were touched through the care and compassion she shared so freely. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Pauline was the beloved wife of the late Marvin. Dear mother of Marvin Jr., Douglas, James, Charlene (Timothy) Thompson, Ronald, and Karen Lynn Berg. Loving grandmother of Marvin III, Gina, Dawn, Matthew, and Elizabeth. Sister of Francis and Richard. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
