Peggy Boyd lived with her parents Noble and Alma Boyd in TN, along with siblings Earlene, Ruth, Cliff, and Betty. They moved to Michigan around 1947. Peggy graduated from Highland Park Highschool in 1951. Noble Boyd met a young army veteran in 1949 and told him of a vacancy in his apartment building. This army veteran was James R. Steele. He and Peggy married two years later in October 1951. They were married just shy of 70 years. They had three children: James (JB), the late Paul (Mary) and Jenny.
When her youngest child started school, Peggy became an Avon Lady. She earned many awards and continued selling Avon the rest of her life.
When James retired from Chrysler in 1987 they bought a house and land in Butler, Georgia, where they spent the next 25 years. They enjoyed the warmer weather and living in the country. One perk was living across the road from Peggy's brother, Cliff, and his wife Jeri. Another advantage was being 100 miles from Peggy's sister, Ruth, and her husband, Bill. They made many friends in GA, especially at their church in Buena Vista. Eventually, they sold "the Farm" and remained in Michigan year-round.
Peggy helped many people, especially those having financial problems. She was always ready to contribute money to people and causes.
Peggy loved flowers, plants, and birds. She had incredible knowledge and a green thumb. She enjoyed reading about different types of birds.
She was also interested in medical matters. Several doctors and nurses asked if she'd had medical training because of her knowledge.
Peggy was a member of the Church of Christ throughout her adult life and was well beloved by her fellow church members in Michigan and Georgia.
Peggy was diagnosed with chronic leukemia around around 2005. She fought and was in remission the last few years. About 2015 she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. She did her physical therapy regularly and was able to maintain mobile with her special walker.
She was a fighter, who overcame many medical problems over her lifetime. She remained as active as she could. Unfortunately there just wasn't enough fight left to beat her last illness.
Peggy Steele is survived by her loving husband of 69.5 years James R. Steele, and two of her children James B. (JB) and Jenny. She was predeceased by her son Paul, whose wife, Mary Steele, has been a wonderful friend and help. She is survived by two of her sisters, Earlene Forest (the last Bob) and Ruth Brown (the late Bill). She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
