Phyllis Mary Kovac, age 96 of Warren, died Tu7esday, April 14, 2015 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. She was born May 5, 1918 in Detroit, daughter of the late Royal and the late Julie (nee: Sternischer) Stockwell.Phyllis grew up in St. Clair Shores and was a graduate of St. Ambrose High School. Coming from a family in the food business, it just made perfect sense for her to join them at their eatery on the corner of Harper & Little Mack, the iconic "Dutch Mill Barbeque." A longtime landmark of St. Clair Shores, it is where Phyllis began her long history in the restaurant business serving the eating delights of thousands over the years. From there, she would join her father in opening a new restaurant in Warren, the "Hoover House." Next, Phyllis' skills would get a workout as a cook at the Carpet Room, then at the Little Elbow Room in Harper Woods. After years of experience and a proven track record of restaurant knowledge, the upper management at the Elbow Room called upon her talents in helping to design and operate their new establishment in Roseville, the "More Elbow Room" restaurant. That is where she would remain until her retirement. With the skills she possessed and her knack of entertaining, Phyllis shined brightly at the holidays and always made them extra special,...especially when stationed behind the bar in the basement. As for her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed her visits to San Francisco and Las Vegas. She wasn't drawn to either for the gambling, but rather for the shopping opportunities both provided. Phyllis loved to shop, and there was no better place than at these two Merchandise Mecca's. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Phyllis leaves behind a storehouse of wonderful memories for all to share who were blessed to know her. Along with feeding the multitudes, she loved on the same with genuine care and compassion that defined what an amazing woman she was to all. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Lewis. Dear mother of Terry (Mary Ellen), the late Michael, and the late Karen Kovac. Loving grandmother of Tracey Lynn Kovac and Daniel Lewis Kovac.A Memorial Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Saturday, April 25th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the D.S.
