Richard Melvin Blanton, Sr., age 79, died Friday, December 6, 2019 at his home in Warren, Michigan. He was born November 8, 1940 in Letcher, Kentucky to the late Oliver Blanton and the late Eliz (nee: Boyd) Blanton.
With much pride and honor, we pay tribute to the service and sacrifice that Richard rendered on behalf of our country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army.
In the late 1950's, following his military service, Richard moved to New Albany, Indiana where he started his career path as the owner & proprietor of The Blanton Construction Company. Life was good,...and when Richard decided to retire, he figured moving to Michigan would be the best choice. This brought him years of happiness since he was closer to his two children and grandchildren.
When he wasn't working, Richard had his pleasurable escapes. He loved to watch old game shows on TV, and had a passion for playing and watching golf. You could always count on Richard to give you the updated stats on the University of Kentucky Basketball team since some say he was their biggest fan. His love of sports was as big as his heart.
Richard was truly a family man and treasured the moments made with his children and grandchildren. He loved visiting and talking with people and will be remembered for the warm spirit he shared with all. He will be missed immensely by all those whose lives he touched along life's way.
He was the beloved father of Debra (James) Heath, and Richard (Lyn) Blanton Jr. Loving grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of 15. He is also survived by his sister, Carol and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Fred, Oliver and Henry.
Visitation for Richard will be held on Wednesday 5-9 pm, with the rendering of Military Honors at 7:30 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren.
