

Richard Ephraim Shunk, age 74 of Harrison Township, formerly of Warren and Roscommon, Michigan, died Monday, December 15, 2003 at Mount Clemens General Hospital in Mt Clemens. He was born March 16, 1929 in East Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Arthur Shunk and the late Bernice (nee: Meyers) Shunk. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia. Dearest Father of Diane (Paul) Ehrler, Joyce (Douglas) Bies, Karen (Robert) Hanovich, Daniel (Ann) Shunk, Thomas Shunk, Cheryl (Thomas) Aquino, Victoria Willits, Paula Keipert, and Kathy (Mark) Huffman. Also survived by 26 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 sisters. Mr. Shunk was predeceased by 2 grandchildren, Nicole Shunk, and Nathaniel Shunk, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Mr. Shunk graduated in 1947 from Lincoln High School in Warren. Mr. Shunk retired from the Warren Police Department in 1981 as a lieutenant, after 26 years of service. Mr. Shunk was the first police officer to serve on the youth bureau utilizing the Talking Bike with the children and later with the traffic safety division. He served in many of the areas of the Warren Police Department. Prior to joining the police department Mr. Shunk worked at Chrysler Motor and other automotive related companies. Mr. Shunk loved to tinker with cars and in his younger years raced cars at the Mount Clemens Dirt track. His favorite car was the Hudson Hornet. Most of all Mr. Shunk loved his family and grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Shunk will be Wednesday December 17th from 5-9 pm and Thursday from 1-9 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be Friday 11:00 am at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 mile). Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
