Richard Burton Stoddard, age 80, died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Sanctuary at Fraser Villa surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 8, 1935, son of the late Howard Stoddard and the late Margaret (nee: Downey) Stoddard.Richard was raised in St. Clair Shores and spent his entire life in the same town. As a young boy, he loved to watch and play baseball and even worked at the Briggs Field during Detroit Tiger games. He graduated from Lake Shore High School and, soon thereafter, entered the Unites States Navy where he would serve his country for the next four years. Following his military service, Richard lived in San Francisco for two years before returning to his home in Michigan.Richard learned the trade of carpenter and eventually attained his builders license. He worked in the building trades for a few years before taking a position with the city of St. Clair Shores working in the water department. He never gave up on his skills as a carpenter... Richard built all the homes he and his wife lived in, along with helping his son and others build their homes, and staying busy with all kinds of other projects as well. When Richard was not working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and dancing with his wife in their early years. It seemed water was always present in Richard's life, either while at work or out on the lake trolling for Muskies. He cherished his time out on his boat fishing for Walleye, Perch, or the big Muskie fish. The only thing Richard cherished more than his time out on the water was to be surrounded by his family and grandchildren.Richard was the beloved husband of Henrietta (nee: Grand), and was the dear father of Burt (Tawny) Stoddard. He was the loving Grandfather of Dylan and Natalie Stoddard. Visitation for Mr. Stoddard will be held Thursday, May 12th from 3-9pm, with a evening Prayer Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
