Robert A. Carey, aged 72, peacefully departed from this world on Friday, September 1, 2023. He was born to Margaret and the late George Carey, and his memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Robert was a devoted father to his children, Paul (Brandi), Philip (Cindy), Martin (Melissa), Debbie (Michael) Kocab, and Margaret, who were his pride and joy. He was also a loving grandfather to Mason, Lyla, Elena, Julia, Mya, Sierra, Emilia, Olivia and Anthony who brought immense happiness to his life.
He was a beloved brother to Susan Carey, Michael Carey, and Joanne (Dave) Keena, and a caring uncle to Jenn, Julie, and Davis.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army and later as a National Guard Reservist. Following his military service, he dedicated 25 years of his life to working for the State of Michigan’s Department of Corrections, where he excelled as their Food Service Supervisor.
One of Bob's greatest passions was outdoor pursuits, particularly hunting and fishing. He instilled a love for these activities in his children, and the tradition continued with his grandchildren as they came into the world. The family would gather every year at their property near Trout Lake, creating lasting memories that Bob cherished dearly. His proudest moments were those when his entire family came together to celebrate their bond.
Bob's community involvement extended to hosting the St. Ignace Car Show for several years. Visitors could always count on enjoying his famous prime rib and potato salad, making the event a memorable family gathering each year. In his spare time, he explored his creative and artistic side through photography, demonstrating his multifaceted talents. When it came time to unwind, Bob could be found enjoying sports. He was a lifelong, loyal fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers. In addition to football and baseball, he had a deep appreciation for tennis. He found joy in watching the grace and skill of tennis players as they competed on the court.
Bob will be remembered most for his exceptional sense of humor, his captivating storytelling abilities, and his unwavering passion for caring for others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family and community.
Visitation to pay respects and offer condolences will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Funeral Service at 7:00 PM, held at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, located at 30009 Hoover Road in Warren.
Bob will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
