Robert Alan Gary, age 60, died Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren. He was born December 1, 1960 in Rogers City, Michigan, beloved son of Patricia (nee: Hanson), and the late Ronald Gary.
This may seem like a crazy way to begin an obituary,…but if you’ve never visited the website of United Building Services of Ferndale, you need to check out the magnificent work that company does in renovating people’s homes. And now to connect the dots,…this is the company that Robert worked for and poured a great deal of sweat-equity into earning his well-deserved paycheck. As a laborer in the realm of construction, Robert was an integral part in helping to turn visions into dreams-come-true, and doing his best to play a supportive role in getting the job done.
Though Robert had a paying job, everybody knows that he did his best work with a fishing rod in hand. He absolutely loved fishing and did so as often as he was able. And though anywhere would have been perfectly fine for Robert to cast out his line, there’s no question that his favorite fishing spot was in the waters of Little Bay de Noc. Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, just off shore between Escanaba and Gladstone amidst the Hiawatha National Forest, it is considered to be one of the premiere waters for the capture of trophy worthy Walleye,…and Robert managed to snag himself a fish or two over the years. Second only to fishing was his love of camping,…and we’re not referring to the Motorhome version. This was a tent sportin’, campfire buildin’, Smores eatin’ kinda guy. He was a lover of the outdoors and knew how to take advantage of the beautiful backwoods of the Mitten State. Nothing says fun and relaxing quite like exchanging the concrete jungle for a bit of God’s country,…and nobody knew that better than Robert.
Another favorite pastime of Robert’s was plunking himself down in front of the TV on Sunday’s and surfing the sports channels in search of the perfect football game. Like many dudes out there, Robert loved his football,…and there was no better game played than that which highlighted his favorite Quarterback, the Super Bowl Champ, Eli Manning. We all have our favorites,…and for Robert, Eli was the pinnacle of the game.
Robert was known for his love of eating and sitting down to a great meal. Yet not merely eating, he was a BBQing Master! Give this boy a Weber, some grilling tools and a nice chunk of meat, and he could make your eyes roll back in your head. BBQing is truly an art, and Robert was the “Picasso of the Patio!”
A loving son, brother and uncle, Robert leaves behind a storehouse of wonderful memories to be embraced with each reflection shared. In his own way, he touched a multitude of hearts and lives and leaves an impact like no other. Though it is hard to say good-bye, we can take heart in knowing that Robert goes to join his feline friend, “Shotzy Bear,”…his precious cat who went on ahead to await his arrival. For those that survive Robert, his presence is sure to be felt in the memories that linger. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally.
Robert was the dear brother of Rebecca (Robert) Russo, Sharon Dixon, and the late Susan Lyn Gary. Loving uncle of Jennifer, Nichole, Janette, Laura, and Kayla (Jamie) Cyr. Also survived by 6 great nieces & nephews.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan.
