Robert Hegler was a man with a zest for life, a great sense of humor and a profound love for his family and friends. He was a man of strong faith who tried to affect people's lives in a positive way. Bob was born on May 15, 1927 to Lincoln and Margaret Hegler in Flint Michigan. The family moved to Windsor Ontario when he was 2 years old. He grew up dedicated to sports and was very competitive. In high school, he and his friends created a fraternity who would take on 'any team, any sport, any place' and almost always won. He joined the U.S. Navy prior to the end of WWII and was stationed in Long Beach California. One of the highlights of his years in the service was dancing with Dinah Shore at the Hollywood Canteen. After his years in the service, he returned to Windsor, went back to school and spent part of his free time playing semi pro football for the Rockets in the ORFU organization until forced by injury to quit. He and his father enjoyed golfing bowling, fishing and participating as Masons in the St. Andrew's Lodge. He spent the next few years working for various automotive companies (Cross, Hudson, and Chrysler) to acquire the skills necessary to become part of the research group at General Motors where he worked for 35 years (first in Windsor and then Warren Michigan) until his retirement. He continued to keep active golfing with his buddies, participating as a table chair, speaker and sponsor in AA, and spending time with his family.Married to his 'Princess' Natalie in 1953, they enjoyed 60 years of marriage prior to her death in 2003. They loved to experience new things together and travelled extensively first with their children and later with other couples after Bob's retirement.
