Born in Detroit to the late Rosalie and Joseph Polbitzki, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy for eight years. He continued his education at Wayne State University and Macomb Community College before beginning a career at Bendix, where he worked for 27½ years as a Technical Illustrator until his retirement. Retirement brought Bob new opportunities to stay active and connected with others. He spent many years working at Kaul Funeral Home as a hearse driver and bartender, where he continued to serve others in his own unique way.
A man of faith, Bob was a longtime member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church and St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. His faith and dedication to his church communities were important parts of his life. Bob had a special appreciation for collecting and the simple joys in life. He enjoyed collecting coins, car models, stuffed animals, and was also a devoted animal lover.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gina, whom he married in 1956. Loving sweetheart of Linda Schimeck for over 35 years. He is also survived by Linda’s daughter, Elise, and was lovingly known as “Grandpa Bob” to Jack and Andrew Steffe. Bob is survived by his sister, Judy (the late Larry), as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Among those who will cherish his memory are his great-nieces Pauline (Mark) Dowell, Charlotte (Mike) Romano, Chris (Marc) Smith, and Jennifer Jefferies. He was predeceased by three siblings. Dear cousin of Marlene Mousel. Cherished uncle of the Valente family.
Bob will be remembered for his years of service to his country, his dedication to his work and faith, his unique collections, and the love and companionship he shared with those closest to him. His 92 years were filled with experiences, relationships, and simple pleasures that made his life distinctly his own.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation Friday, October 30th at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, Schoenherr Rd, Warren, MI 48088, from 10:30 am until time of Funeral Service at 12:00 pm. Bob will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp with military honors.
