Rodney L. Sider, age 65, died on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. He was born October 12, 1948 in Grosse pointe Farms, Michigan, the son of the late Francis Sider and the late Joanne (nee: Linton) (the late Martin "Whitey") Schatz. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Rodney for his service to our country during the Vietnam years. At a time when many were bashing the war and, sadly, those involved in its campaigns, Rodney's patriotism called for him to disembark from his schooling and answer the call to duty,...which he did so willingly and with much pride. As a sailor in our great U.S. Navy, he was stationed aboard the USS Worden and served with bravery for just under 4 years. For the sacrifices he made by standing in harm's way, and for helping to preserve the cause of liberty, we honor Rodney and share our posthumous gratitude for doing what he considered so important and made him feel so proud.Rodney was employed with the Lear Corporation where he worked as a Hi-Lo Driver in their warehousing facilities. Extending over 23 years of dedicated and loyal service to the organization, he found great pride in a job well done and brought his best to the table each day. When he wasn't on the job, Rodney enjoyed another field of "work",...but" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...but he will confess that it was much more fun and inspiring to be the General Manager, for over 10 years, of the East Detroit Tiger Cats, a local youth football organization for the city. And his coaching resume didn't stop there. Taking in baseball and basketball as well, Rodney's life was filled with the joy and pleasure of mentoring thousands of young hearts and lives,...and" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...and coaching them to many wins, too.And Rodney's sporting pleasures didn't just involve coaching. To those who knew this "armchair fan," they'll easily attest to his love and devotion for both NASCAR and the Red Wings. Whether it was watching Jeff Gordon pile into a turn at 200mph,...or taking in a rousing game of his Winged Wheeled Warriors, both sporting events provided Rodney with countless hours of entertainment,...and many times, bragging rights as well. For many of us out there, we are blessed to share the love with some very special friends,...those of the furry nature, that is. For Rodney, that came in the form of his cherished dog, Jake. They were buddies to the core and shared that special connection that only a pet owner/lover can understand. A few years ago, Rodney was forced to say good-bye to his pal,...but like the movie title says, "All Dogs Go To Heaven." Though its hard to say good-bye to OUR friend, we can share a collective smile when we think of Rodney & Jake being reunited again.A loving husband, father and grandfather, Rodney leaves a storehouse of wonderful memories with the many loved ones and friends with whom he shared his life's journey. His family meant the world to him and his presence will forever be felt. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (nee: Gregory). Loving father of Rodney, Todd (Janet), Jason, Kimberly, and Kristy (Frank). Devoted grandfather of Ethan, Keira, Logan, Nicklaus, Brenden, Austin, McKayla, Jayson, Jayden, and Alexandria. Brother of Barbara (Larry) Aliotta, Nancy (Larry) Lefkof, and the late Rose Zehnfenning. He was also survived by many other loving family members. Visitation for Rodney will be held on Saturday 5:30pm-9:00pm and Sunday 2-9pm, with a Funeral Service Monday at 11:30am, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren. Rodney's interment, with military honors, will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan,...a sacred and honored resting place for one of our national heroes. Please share memories at www.Temrowski.com
