Ronald G. Engel, age 76, died on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in St. Clair Shores. He was born September 29, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late William Engel and the late Marilynn (nee. MacLeod) Weaver.
Ronald was raised in Warren and graduated from Centerline High School in 1969. Later that year, in November, he began his career as a Mail Handler for the United States Postal Service. He dedicated 35 years to the Postal Service before retiring in October 2004.
Ronald was a quiet, loving, sentimental, and easy-going man who had a kind heart and a deep love for his family. He was a very religious and faithful servant and was a longtime member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Centerline. He cherished his family and had a special way of making each person feel remembered and loved. He knew everyone’s birthday and made sure to send each family member a card every year—a simple gesture that meant so much and was a true reflection of who Ronald was.
Ronald had a lifelong love of music, especially the music of the 1950s. He had a tremendous album collection and continued adding to it for as long as he could. In his younger years, he would walk to Harmony House whenever he had the chance to purchase a new album. Music was always a special part of his life. He loved to sing and dance and would often dance while exercising or even while getting ready in the morning. He kept a calendar with a “song of the day” and looked forward to playing that song each day.
Ronald was also an avid sports fan. The Detroit Tigers were his favorite team, but his love of sports went far beyond baseball. He kept schedules for all kinds of sports, following both college and professional teams. He enjoyed keeping up with the games and teams he loved.
One of the greatest joys in Ronald’s life was the time he was able to spend living with each of his sisters. He brought his own special warmth, happiness, and joy into each of their homes and created memories that his family will treasure forever.
Ronald will be deeply missed by his beloved sister, Ellen Matlock; and his late sisters, Cheryl (the late Cary Towne) Chalou and Barbara (Wayne) Yancy. He was the loving uncle of Brian (Kimberly) Chalou, Danielle (Dan) Gorney, Michelle (Joey Evola) Yancy, Jeffrey (Mandy) Yancy, Lisa Matlock, Stephen (Anna) Matlock, Kevin (Megan Gappy) Matlock, and the late Ronald Chalou. He is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as his beloved best fur friend, Bentley.
Ronald’s gentle spirit, faithful heart, love of music, and devotion to his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
