Russell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be remembered for his outgoing personality, generous spirit, and love of family. He was truly the life of the party and never met a stranger. His greatest joy was being surrounded by the people he loved.
Russell and his beloved wife, Marlene, shared 47 wonderful years together. As their children were growing up, family vacations were especially important to them. During every school break, they would travel together to Cocoa Beach, Florida, creating treasured memories as a family. Later in life, Russell and Marlene became snowbirds, renting a condo in Hudson, Florida, where they enjoyed escaping the cold Michigan winters.
Russell was deeply involved in his children's lives as they grew up, serving as a leader of the Cub Scouts. He remained a dedicated family man throughout his life and especially looked forward to the holidays because they meant having everyone together. He also frequently traveled to Ontario to visit family and remained very close with his nieces and nephews.
A lifelong lover of golf, Russell enjoyed the game whenever he could. After retiring, he worked at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Macomb, where he was able to spend his days outdoors, enjoying the sunshine and golfing as much as possible. He also enjoyed attending his granddaughter Jessica’s baseball games.
Russell was a very active member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, faithfully attending Sunday Mass and giving his time generously to the church. He was especially dedicated to the St. Malachy Festival, where he served as the head volunteer. His willingness to help and his friendly nature made him an important part of the church community.
Above all, Russell loved his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his laughter, and wonderful memories will live on.
