Shelley Maria Mackie, age 60 of Warren, died Friday, September 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family. Shelley was born July 21, 1959 in Detroit, the youngest daughter of the late Edward Daniel and the late Halina Mary (nee: Grudzinski) Mackie.
Born in Detroit and raised in Warren, Shelley was one of the many proud graduates that hailed from Cousino High School. Following those formative years of education, Shelley gravitated to the world of retail sales where her career got its start at the iconic J.L. Hudson Company. Following her years with Hudson’s, Shelley’s next venture took her to another well-known and upscale retail firm, Saks Fifth Avenue at the Somerset Collection in Troy. While there, she was honored to have been chosen the store’s 1st outside Sales Manager to direct and supervise the operations of its spa. With pride in their selection and assurance in her abilities, Shelley was extremely proud of the confidence that Saks placed in her,…and she handled it all with her own brand of excellence and professionalism. Along with the hats she already wore, Shelley also dabbled a bit in the sales of exotic cars,…simply for that added twist of expertise in her sales acumen.
Shelley will be lovingly remembered for the creative and artistic abilities she possessed, especially when it came to cooking & entertaining. She was truly a “people person” and enjoyed sharing the abundance of life with everyone she knew. Shelley loved life, found great delight in the “good times,” and Loved to Party! Her verve for life was quite infectious and influential, and it defined the wonderful woman that many came to know. She amassed many loving relationships over the years, both family and friends alike,…and she never met a stranger! There was a caring spirit about Shelley, and you couldn’t share her presence without coming away a bit more blessed than you were going in. Her spirit had a calming quality to its nature that enveloped you like a warm blanket and quickened comfort to your soul. Shelley was the kind of person who never judged another, and had a heart as big as the moon.
As much as she shared with the world, the gifts that Shelley brought to her family were even more precious and coveted. A consummate caregiver to her family, this was never more evidenced than in the love poured out in the care of her parents. Shelley was quite the doting daughter and was there to meet whatever need arose. And not merely for Mom & Dad,…she held her sister, Dena in the highest regard as well and was an immense support in helping Dena raise her children. Affectionately known to her nieces and nephews as “Ciocia,”…Shelley was also Dena’s BFF (best friends forever) and Confidant. Two sisters…thick as thieves…and beautifully connected at the heart.
A loving daughter, sister & aunt,…prior to her passing, Shelley was blessed to add another title to her repertoire when Little Jackson “Jack” came into the world, making her a Great Aunt for the first time. Boy,…if you thought she doted on the others…there was a boundless love that emanated from her for that little sprout. Jack was her sunshine amidst the storm, and a source of great joy that lifted her from the challenges she faced. Shelley’s battles loomed large, but were dwarfed by the love that surrounded her and lifted her up,…love that was simply coming back to her from the never-ending supply she had shared throughout her life. Though she leaves us far too soon, it is not without imparting the best & brightest of herself into all the lives she touched,…and they remain countless. Her battles are over,…her pain has ended,…and her beautiful spirit remains in all of us who were blessed to know and love her. And let’s not forget,…Shelley was her Dad’s favorite!
Shelley was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Halina Mackie. She was the dearest sister of Dena (Greg) Mackie-Sherburn, Mark Mackie, Christina (Ted) Jackson, and Curtis (Diane) Mackie. Shelley was the cherished aunt of Adam Sherburn, Jordan Sherburn, Evan Sherburn, Amy Houston, Robyn Hamilton, Megan, Eric, and great-aunt to Jackson "Jack".
Visitation for Shelley will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren. Visiting hours will be from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Services at 12 Noon.
