Shirley grew up in Royal Oak, where she built a life defined by hard work, creativity, and deep devotion to those she loved. As a single mother for a time, she worked hard as a waitress at Big Boy and Suzy Q in Royal Oak, as well as at a local hotel, always doing what was necessary to care for her family. She later married a handsome Marine, Leonard, and they shared 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2025. Their life together was a source of great pride and happiness for Shirley, and she lovingly cared for him until his passing.
Shirley had a lifelong love for animals, especially her dogs, and found joy in feeding the neighborhood squirrels and birds. She cherished her collection of elephants, bells, angels, and bears. She enjoyed spending time with friends and had a creative spirit that expressed itself in many ways. She loved coloring, drawing, sewing her own clothes, making ornaments and craft items, sometimes participating in craft shows to share her talents with others.
Family was always at the center of Shirley’s heart. She cared deeply about their wellbeing and worried about them often, a reflection of her constant love and concern. She also loved gardening and took immense pride in the appearance of her home. Her dedication to her many flowers and yard earned her a Beautification Award from the city, an honor she cherished. Inside the home, Shirley was equally meticulous, maintaining a spotless space even as she aged.
Above all else, Shirley was a determined woman. Once she set her mind to something, she saw it through. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering will carried her through life and remained with her until the very end. She will be remembered for her perseverance, her creativity, her loving heart, and the quiet strength that defined her life.
Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Leonard. Loving mother of Wayne “Tony” (Anna) Curtis. Dear sister of Richard “Butch” (the late Jan) Predmore. Cherished aunt of Julie (Tom) Stolp, Rick (Roxanne) Predmore, Ron Predmore, and Rob (Julie) Predmore. She is also survived by many loving great-nieces and nephews as well as extraordinary friends and neighbors. Shirley was predeceased by her stepmother Marcella Predmore.
Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff at My Doctors Inn, especially her caregivers Kim and C.C. and her nurses Curtresha and Simone, as well as the staff from Assured Hospice, Chris, Kaylee, and Valentina for the outstanding care they gave to her.
