

Stella DeVito, 90, of Viera, Florida, passed away on February 27, 2014 surrounded by her daughters. She was born August 6, 1923 in Potaak, Poland to the late Stanley and Rosalie Vozniak. Stella came to the United States in 1929. She spent her childhood in Monongah, West Virginia, her married life in Warren, Michigan, and retired to Florida in 2001. She was preceded in death by her loving Husband of 54 years, Paul DeVito, and son, Dr. Paul David DeVito, of Okemos. Stella was also preceded in death by her brother John Vozniak and her sisters Mary Egress, Genevieve Lefko, Wanda Wisniewski, and Annette Narog. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Deborah DeVito Gwizdala (Don) and Denise DeVito (Howard Ralls); Her sister, Gazelle Thibodeau, three grandchildren, Leiah DeVito Carpenter (Chase), Kortney Marlatt (Nick), and Paul Matthew DeVito, two great grandchildren, Keygan Carpenter and Maren Marlatt. Stella was a Great Aunt to Jenna and Jack Thibodeau, Nicole and Allison Surella, Lisa Hutchinson, Rosemary Damas and Gary Charles Clayton, Tommy and Kristan Lucas. Great-Great Aunt to Rilah Lucas, David Paul, Carrie Hutchinson, and Charley & Garrett Clayton. Stella was blessed to be Auntie to many nieces and nephews on both the Vozniak and DeVito sides of the family.Stella was a proud "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII working in Detroit at Motor Products building airplanes. A devoted daughter, loving sister, wife, and mother, Stella enjoyed all aspects of being a housewife and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful cook and was most noted for her meatballs, pierogis, homemade bread and pies. Stella loved to travel and visited almost every state in the union as well as many European countries. Over the years, she became known as the family and neighborhood seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and bowling, retiring at the age of 85 with a 165 over-all average. Stella was an avid reader and kept a journal of all the books she read over the years. A celebration of her life, and tribute to Stella, will begin at 9:30am, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the D.S.Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd., Warren, MI 48092, (586) 751-0444. The family invites guests to join them for visitation from 9:30am until time of the Funeral Service at 11:30am. Pastor Nick Marlatt, grandson-in-law, will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Summit Cemetery, Williamston, MI.
