Born in the City of Detroit to the late Harold and Florence Penner, Stevan served honorably in the United States Army Reserves from 1966 to 1972. Stevan graduated from Denby High School in June 1963, president of the school’s Chess Club and Earth Science Club. He attended Lawrence Institute of Technology, now Lawrence Technological University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1971, and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management in 1975.
Following brief tenures at various aeronautical, industrial, and even hi-fi audio workplaces, Stevan was hired by Chrysler Corporation in 1977, where he would serve as an electrical engineer for the next 36 years until his retirement.
Stevan had a lifelong love of learning. He would read anything from political thrillers to history to the news, talking with great excitement to anyone who would listen about the book or literature he had picked up at the time.
Stevan cared for his family and friends and prioritized them in his life. Stevan and his wife Flordeliza married in Bacolod, Philippines on November 23, 1984. The happy couple supported and loved each other for the next 39 years, setting down roots in St. Clair Shores. In this home they raised their three wonderful children, Thomas, Stephanie, and Michelle.
Stevan was an active member of the Filipino community. Being thoughtful of those less fortunate, he and Flordeliza would volunteer their time and money help to feed the hungry, both locally and those in the Philippines. He supported the Philippine American Community Center of Michigan, the maintenance of their old building, and the recent purchase of their new community center. Stevan also treasured his time serving as a collection officer with the Kiwanis Club of Michigan, making friends and connections with members of the organization.
Stevan’s faith in God kept him grounded. He served Christ as a longtime congregation member, usher, and elder of St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shores.
Stevan and Flordeliza spent much of their time together traveling the United States and beyond. Early in their married life together, Flordeliza would join Stevan in his work trips for Chrysler across North America, while later he would join on her trips for Hawaiian dance conventions and business trips. Their greatest trip together in 2018 united the entire family in Bacolod, Philippines where the devoted couple renewed their vows in the same church where they had originally married.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, Stevan will be missed dearly.
