Therese Anne Carpentier, "Terry," age 86 of Warren, died Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 17, 1930 in Detroit, daughter of the late Victor and the late Mary (nee: Goff) Masserang. After working her way through the elementary and middle school grades, Terry's next chapter found her attending Detroit's prestigious Girls' Catholic Central High School from where she proudly graduated as part of the Class of 1948. This was a stepping stone towards her journey in life and the beginning of what would eventually become a bounty of blessings. One of the earliest of these blessings came when she met the man who changed her life and offered to share the rest of it with her. Following a courtship and that one important question, Terry & Philip Carpentier promised themselves in marriage on May 3, 1952 and became husband & wife in the eyes of family and friends alike. Together, they built upon the warmth and care of home & hearth, raised three beautiful children, and grew deeper in love with each passing day. If there had been a prize for the best homemaker & Mom, Terry would have taken home the blue ribbon. She poured the greatest efforts of her tender-loving-care into everything she did,…especially when it came to her precious family. Yet in keeping with her kind and giving spirit, Terry's heart compelled her to works outside the house which took its form as a hospital volunteer. For over 30 years, in both Michigan and Florida, she offered up her heart & soul towards the care of others and truly made a difference in many lives amidst her volunteering efforts.Since Florida has already been mentioned, a reference should be made to the southern home she so enjoyed in Palmetto, Florida. As the golden years set in and the winters simply became harder to manage, it made perfect sense that she and Philip decided to find a spot in the Sunshine State to call their "winter retreat,"…and Palmetto was that place. For over 20 years, Terry found a sense of sweet release in exchanging the wintry mix for the warmth and sunshine of Florida. After tending to her responsibilities at home, Terry enjoyed feeding her passions,…one of which was found in her love of bowling. One of the great American pastimes, spending time on the alleys with fellow bowling enthusiast's brought her countless hours of joy and entertainment. Whether in Michigan or Florida, her bowling skills and talents reigned supreme. Along with enjoying the sport, Terry also spent many years volunteering her time as the League Treasurer. Other favorite pastimes included her love of playing cards, board games, and the occasional piecing together of a challenging jigsaw puzzle. It just always seemed that Terry could manage to have some kind of fun around the table,…and often did. She was also known for her love of traveling and did so, extensively, around the United States and abroad. She found great joy in building upon her vast travel portfolio, experiencing many scenic highlights throughout her lifetime. And Terry also held quite a passion for her favorite Boys of Summer, the iconic Detroit Tigers. There's never been more of a devout fan than she for the "Boys in the "D'"…even when they lost 100 games in a season. Terry easily fit the bill of a Die-Hard Fan, for sure! But of all the pastimes and/or passions that set her apart, perhaps the most unique and notable was her association and longstanding membership with the GTEV Edelweiss, Detroit Bavarian Cultural Club. For a more native reference, GTEV stands for Gebirgstrachten-Erhaltungs-Verein, which translates as "a club that preserves the costume of the mountainous regions (of Bavaria)." The club's motto is Treu dem guten alten Brauch, which translates to "True to the good old ways." An ethnic society founded in 1931, its members enjoy preserving and perpetuating the customs, Tracht (ethnic costume), language, folk music, and folk dances of the southern state of Bavaria in Germany,…and Terry was truly an involved, passionate and devoted member for many years. Yet in speaking of devotion, one of Terry's most profound traits was witnessed in her devout Catholic faith, a strong and abiding force that went before her and ministered to the countless lives she touched along life's way. Possessing the heart of a servant, her earlier years found her actively participating in multiple ministries at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores, then later at St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church in Warren. But whether at church, in the neighborhood, or simply at home, there was no mistaking her love for God and the importance of reaching out to others. With a genuine compassion that defined the caregiver she was to all, Terry leaves a legacy of love for all to embrace with each reflection shared. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Terry was the beloved wife of Philip, her husband and soul mate for over 64 years. She was the dearest mother of Colleen (Rick) Michels, Kevin (Denise) Carpentier, and Lori (Scott Brown) Carpentier. Loving grandmother of Anneliese (Ryan) Porter, Christina (Eric) Walker, Phil (Claire) Carpentier, Benjamin Lamerand, Sam (Katie) Carpentier, Alex Lamerand, Patrick Lamerand, and great-grandmother of Christian Porter. Devoted sister of Joanne Sawyer, Dan Masserang, and the late Jim Masserang. Terry is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation for Terry will be held Tuesday, August 16th from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state on Wednesday from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren.
