Born on December 26, 1963, Tom was the beloved son of Harry and Jean Steinhauer and the loving brother of Jeanette, Gail, Sue, all of whom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia; his children, Tommy, Maggie (Matt), Liz, Jack, and Katie. Dear brother of the late Janette Devon, the late Gail (Tom Jenson) Steinhauer, and the late Sue (the late Ron) Steinhauer. Brother-in-law of Cardinal Joseph Tobin, Molly (John) Brusstar, Margo (Ron) Coleman, Kathy (Dave) Vandelinder, Jim (Joan) Tobin, Ann (Joe) Levigne, Tom (Cathy) Tobin, Gerarda (Brian Joseph) Tobin, John (Janine Chevalier) Tobin, Therese Tobin, Dan (Maria) Tobin, and Sara (Matt) Broderick. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. and many extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his presence.
An engineer by profession and an artist at heart, Tom possessed a curious mind and a deep appreciation for the beauty hidden within ordinary moments. He loved photography, gardening, birds, classic cars, and taking the scenic route. He found joy in tending his roses, creating with his hands, and sharing the things he noticed with the people he loved.
He was a man who taught those around him lessons that often revealed themselves only with time.
In his final days, surrounded by family, Tom offered one last piece of wisdom: “There are so many signs.” Looking back, his family has come to believe he had been teaching that lesson all along. Not to search endlessly for meaning but to notice it. In the roses blooming after a long winter. In the birds outside the window. In the scenic route. In the quiet moments shared with those we love.
As his family gathered around him, a prayer continued to appear in unexpected places. One that had quietly accompanied generations before him:
“Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.”
What began as a simple prayer became a source of comfort and a reminder that grace often finds us when we need it most. In the midst of loss, it reminded his family that peace is not the absence of suffering but the presence of love. That the lives we touch become part of our legacy. And that even after a life ends, love continues.
Tom’s greatest legacy lives on through his family. In the stories they tell, the traditions they carry forward, the gardens they plant, the photographs they take and the countless ways they continue to choose love. Though each carries a different piece of him, together they carry his story forward.
The family finds comfort in Christ’s promise of eternal life and in the belief that death is not the end of our story but a return home.

May he rest in the peace of Christ, reunited with those who have gone before him and held forever in the love of God.
