Thomas Vincent Viggiano, age 80 of Warren, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at home, surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Detroit on January 4, 1933, son of the late Jerry and the late Pearl (nee: Defore) Viggiano. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Tom for his service to our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. Having attained the rank of Corporal, he was decorated with a Sharpshooter medal for his expertise and skills in marksmanship. Among other medals and decorations obtained, Tom received the Army of Occupation medal for his time spent in Germany. For the call to duty he so proudly served, we honor his bravery, loyalty and willingness to stand in the fray for the protection and preservation of the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today...because he was there. For this dedicated and loyal employee of TACOM for many years, Tom's escape and venture into the things that fed his passions was definitely centered within the realm of sports. Like many men, there was always that familiar attraction to the various sporting events on television,…but Tom's energies and hunger were better satisfied through his desire to participate. And even that took on two different aspects. With an unselfish and caring spirit, he chose to make a difference in the lives of many of our youth through his position as Coach. In both hockey and baseball, Tom found great enjoyment and reward in mentoring his teams toward the finer points of success,…but even more in the transference of those lessons and principles in the betterment of life. As for his proclivities and penchant toward his personal sporting enjoyment, Tom was known for his love of bowling, golf and snow skiing. From a sunny day on the links, to the wintry fun on the slopes, or the camaraderie he enjoyed in the company of his fellow kegler's, he was an active guy who filled his spare time with a lot of memorable, sporting highlights.Yet of all the things that brought him the most joy, nothing could match the countless blessings that were shared between he and his loved ones. Spending time with family was the pinnacle of his favorite pastimes in life, and the impact he left with each of them was truly unique. It's the legacy of love he leaves behind for them to cherish with each thought of remembrance that brings him close again. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan Marie. Dear father of Kim (Larry) Graves, Tom (Lisa) Viggiano, Tracy (Ravian) Hannah, Alan (Tracy) Viggiano, Matthew (Becky) Viggiano, and loving grandfather of thirteen. Visitation for Tom will be held on Friday, April 19th from 5:00-9:00pm, with a 7:00pm Scripture Service, at the D.S.
