Mrs. Velma Lee Aurand, died September 17, 2008 at the age of 78 in Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak Michigan. Mrs. Aurand was born in Servier County, TN. to Otha and Tiny Mae (nee: Helton) Thomas. Mrs. Aurand was an active member of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church and was once honored by the church as its Women of the Year. She worked with her husband at Aurand Real Estate and in her younger years was employed at Michigan Bell. She is survived by her husband, Richard D.; daughters, Michelle (David) Cayer and Denise (Michael) Cavanagh; grandchildren, Kelly Cavanagh and Kevin (fiance Danielle Dykens) Cavanagh; and siblings, Otha "Buddy" Thomas, Devone (Steve) Szabo and Diane (Walter) Manning. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Monday at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Parker officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Visitation is 5-9 pm. Saturday and 2-9 pm. Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial sharing time will be held at 7:00 pm. Sunday. Additional visitation will be 10-11 am. Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
