Velma Rose Tucker, age 58, died Sunday June 6, 2021, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan surrounded by her loving family. Velma was born April 12, 1963 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Elza Vinson and the late Geneva (nee: Adams) Vinson.
Her early years of childhood were spent living in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. The family later moved to Livonia where Velma spent her teenage and formative years. Velma always looked forward to the annual summer trips to visit relatives in West Virginia and Kentucky.
Velma graduated from Livonia Stevenson High School, the graduating class of 1981. Following high school she went on to attend Schoolcraft Community College where she attained her Associate’s degree in business. Her business interest led her to working for Motorola and Arrow Electronics.
Velma’s life path led her to meeting, dating, and marrying Darryl Tucker who was the love and inspiration of her life. The couple shared their love of family and traveling. They loved to go camping with their friends and family in their own “pop-up” trailer. Additionally, Velma and Darryl were active league bowlers for over ten years. It was something they always looked forward to and enjoyed sharing their interest with her nieces and nephews.
Velma and Darryl cherished their many family gatherings, and even though they had no children of their own, they embraced their nieces and nephews as their own children. Velma was known to her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews as “G2” for Grandma 2. She had a wonderful silly sense of humor constantly making her relatives chuckle. Velma was an incredible cook, chef, and baker; her family remembers the Christmas cookie bake-off and exchange. She loved nothing more than planning wonderful meals and preparing for holiday events.
Velma was the most kind, warm hearted individual, full of life and love, and willing to share her love with everyone she met. She gave of herself unconditionally and was always there for family and friends in need. Velma was also extremely intelligent. She read the New York Times each weekend and felt pride when she completed the “ultimate” crossword puzzle. In her quiet time spent at home, Velma had a passion for knitting. She knitted baby blankets, hats, and booties for all the new babies that came into the family and donating others to charitable organizations.
Until the pandemic, Velma enjoyed a weekly breakfast with a core group of friends that met almost every Saturday morning to share their stories of their week, their highlights, and kibitzing.
