Wanda Mary Kowal, age 101, died peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Ascension St. John Hospital in Warren, Michigan with her family at her side. Wanda was born August 11, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Walter and Mary Urbanski.
Wanda was raised on Detroit's east side where she attended Northeastern High School. Following her schooling, Wanda went to work for Packard Motor Car Company during the War years. While employed at Packard, she also worked on military parts for aircraft. Later, Wanda went to work at the J.L. Hudson Department Store in Detroit. Outside of work, Wanda was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a longtime member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Center Line community. Wanda enjoyed reading and playing bingo. She and her husband would always take their annual trip to northern Michigan, a tradition that has carried over to her daughter and son in-law. In addition to playing bingo, Wanda also enjoyed giving "Ol' Lady Luck" a run for her money at the local casinos.
Wanda was the beloved wife of the late Edward Kowal, and dear mother of Marcia (Gene) Zorin. She was also the devoted grandmother of David (Heidi) Zorin.
