Wanda Suellen Sale

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Sue was the cherished daughter of the late Dallas and the late Wanda Easterwood. She graduated from Western High School in 1965, where she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Richard Sale. The two were married on August 15, 1970, at Fort Street Presbyterian Church in Detroit and shared 46 wonderful years of marriage until Richard’s passing in 2017.

Sue continued her education at Wayne State University, earning her bachelor’s degree before beginning a career as an elementary school teacher. She devoted many years to educating young minds in Detroit Public Schools. She spent much of her teaching career at Priest Elementary School. Her patience, kindness, and dedication left a lasting impact on countless students and their families.

A woman of unwavering faith, Sue was a devoted member of Fort Street Presbyterian Church since the early 1970s. Throughout the years, she faithfully served her church family as Moderator of the Deacons, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and coordinating Open Door volunteers, helping provide meals and support for those experiencing homelessness. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she truly lived as a servant leader, caring for both her church and her family with humility, compassion, and grace.

Sue had an incredibly generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand, often putting the needs of others before her own. She was strong, independent, and deeply dedicated to those she loved. While she could be a little sassy when her children tested her patience, those who knew Sue also knew her gentle spirit, warm smile, and kind heart. Her smile had a way of lighting up every room she entered.

In her free time, Sue enjoyed needlepointing, reading, and baking, especially her famous rum cake that family and friends looked forward to. She also treasured vacations spent at Torch Lake, where she made many cherished memories with those she loved.

Sue was the beloved wife of the late Richard Sale. Loving mother of Derek (Amy) Sale and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Hayes. Devoted grandmother of Henry (Micah) Morley, Charles (Brooke) Sale, and Hunter Hayes. Dear sister of Sharon Easterwood, David (Beth) Easterwood, Shelly (Kevin) Kelley, and the late Dallas “Doug” Easterwood. Sister-in-law of Chris Easterwood and Judy (the late Thomas) Khalil. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

A Memorial Visitation for Sue will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by her Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m., at Fort Street Presbyterian Church, 631 W. Fort Street, Detroit, Michigan 48226.

A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather for a meal and to share memories as we honor and celebrate Sue's life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12½ Mile Road), Warren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the Board of Deacons at Fort Street Presbyterian Church. If sending flowers, the family kindly requests that no lilies be included in the floral arrangements due to severe allergies within the family.
