Wayne Dixon, age 57 of Roseville, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at home surrounded by his loved ones.He was born on February 29, 1956 in Highland Park, son of Roy and Nancy (nee: Haight) Dixon. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Wayne for wearing the uniform of a U.S. Army soldier and for putting himself in harm's way for us during the Vietnam War era. For the sacrifices made and bravery exuded, we honor our brother for being there and helping to protect and preserve the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today. As for his occupation, Wayne was a self-employed handyman whose skills and talents were as diverse as his abilities to get the job done. He was the ultimate and consummate "Fix-It Man" who could make anything work,...or re-design it toward that end. He possessed a genuine knack for the work he performed, and a willingness to go the extra mile to learn something new. When he wasn't working, one of his favorite pastimes was enjoyed in front of the TV. Two of his favorites were the Western movies, and the series, Law & Order. But without question, Wayne's ultimate television watching experience involved anything to do with sports,...especially when it included one of the Detroit teams. When it came to either the WIngs, Tigers, Pistons or Lions, Detroit had no greater fan of its teams than Wayne. To say he was a sports fanatic would be a tremendous understatement. Yet, of all the fun he enjoyed, nothing could match the pleasure and camaraderie he shared while throwing back a few beers with friends. And not merely a bunch of drinkin' buddies, Wayne's friends were an integral part of his life and a tremendous support network amidst life's challenges. And as much as he "received" from friendship, he "gave" in so many ways as well. He was always there when you needed him,...be it for help, a bit of friendly company, or merely a sounding board to vent on. With unselfish and unconditional love, Wayne extended the best of himself to his loved ones and friends alike.Never having been married, nor afforded the gift of his own children, Wayne was truly blessed with a special and genuine love for kids. Between family and friends, and through varied walks in life, he lived vicariously through the hearts of the many children who passed through his life and left their own, unique imprint on his heart. He possessed a great sense of patience with all children, and served as a mentor to many. It's been said; "when one door is closed, God opens another,"...and that was certainly the case with Wayne. He may not have fathered his own children, but his quiver was truly full of many young hearts and lives who benefited from the time and encouragement he shared with each and every one of them over the years. . Wayne was the beloved son of Roy & Nancy Dixon. Dearest brother of Brian (the late Brenda) Dixon, Linda (Frank) Monaco, Larry (Lisa) Dixon, Don (Kim) Dixon, and John (Christine) Dixon. Devoted Uncle and Godfather to niece, Angel Marie. Much loved uncle of many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Visitation for Wayne will be held on Sunday, June 23rd from 3-5pm, with a 4:30pm Memorial Service, at the D.S.
