William Stanislaus Adamczyk, age 78 of Warren, died Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Windemere Park Assisted Living facility in Warren. He was born January 24, 1938 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, son of the late Stefan and the late Josephine Adamczyk.A graduate of the iconic St. Stanislaus High School of Hamtramck, one of Bill's fondest and most proud memories was being a member of the basketball team of which he was one of their shining stars. He loved the sport immensely and poured the finest parts of his athleticism into making the team successful. As for his employment, Bill worked as a maintenance engineer within the automotive industry. The position required him to wear a lot of hats,…and each of his responsibilities were handled with the utmost of professionalism. After many years of dedicated and loyal service to the company, Bill accepted his well-deserved retirement. As for the time Bill enjoyed away from work, much of it had to do with his love and penchant for sports. Of course, with a past history of being a star basketball player, it only made perfect sense that sports would be an important venue for his pastime pleasures,…and he enjoyed them all from basketball, to football, to hockey, and the All-American favorite, baseball. And in the vein of sports, Bill was also known for his love of horse racing and spent countless hours at the track "enjoying the ponies." His appreciation and fascination for horse racing became so involved that it ultimately culminated in him purchasing a horse of his own and named her, "Red Hot Torch." And like many Michigander's, he spent as much time as he could casting his line in the water in the hope of snagging the "Big One." Fishing was a special pastime that afforded him just the right amount of sport and relaxation,…all at the same time.Another of Bill's favorite pastimes was found in his love of traveling. He enjoyed packing his bags and heading to scenic and memorable destinations, with two of his treasured memories including the wonders of Alaska and the warmth of Florida. But of all the places he found the most enjoyment, the casino trips with his sister's ranked quite high on the list. Hitting the casinos and giving Ol' Lady Luck a run for her money always instilled Bill with exhuberance,…and hopefully, a little dinero. For most of us, we have those food treats that make our bellies jump with joy. Known more familiarly as "comfort foods," one of Bill's most comfortable eating pleasures was a warm and tasty slice of pizza. Another was the iconic favorite, a hot dog,…but with mustard only, please. And Bill was truly an eclectic personality as well,…known to be quite the flirt with women, and renowned for his familiar saying; "I'll give you a knuckle sandwich, heavy on the ketchup." But of all that made him the happiest, it was definitely in the joys of family, especially when in the company of his grandchildren. From supporting his grandson in hockey, to enjoying the sounds of his granddaughter playing her violin, they were truly the source of so many of Bill's most precious memories. In his last days, Bill required a great deal of assistance. He was always appreciative and grateful for the guidance, help and support he received from the doctors and nurses that cared for him. William was the dear father of Allen (Dawn) Adamczyk and David (Janet) Adamczyk. Loving grandfather of Nikolaas and Sarah. Brother of Mary Wassin, Delphine Kalapinski, the late Virginia Szymanski, and the late Steven Adamczyk. A Memorial Mass for William will be held on Friday, November 11th, 9:30 am at St. Blasé Catholic Church in Sterling Heights.
