William Tweedlie , age 88, died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren. William was born July 17, 1927 in Scotland, son of the late William and the late Mary (nee: Nimmo) Tweedlie,In the late 1940's, with the United States experiencing a shortage of skilled trades people, William would master his skills in the automotive tool and die trade in his native Scotland and eventually transfer his trade to the US. As a young man, his skill set found him making many trips between Scotland and America for work. So he ultimately decided to bridge the gap by relocating to America in his late 20's, and is where he would remain until his recent passing. In the United States, William secured employment with the automotive powerhouse, General Motors, where he would spend the remainder of his working career in the tool and die trades at GM's Plant #21 in Highland Park, Michigan.William had a passion for gambling,...it was not rare for him to drive by a casino and place a friendly wager on a sports game or a dog race. In his spare time, William would often enjoy Scotland's premier sport of golf, and also spent countless hours at the bowling alley in search of that elusive 300 game. Mr. Tweedlie's happiest moments were those spent with his two granddaughters, Alyson and Lindsay. He was even fortunate enough to recently meet his new great-grandson, Ryder. Mr. Tweedlie was the loving father of Sandra (Bill) Young, and William (Valarie) Tweedlie; the cherished grandfather of Alyson Young and Lindsay (Alan) Ganshorn, and the great-grandfather of Ryder. No public visitation or services will be held. Please share memories at William's memory book above.
