Alvin Emile Edler Jr., “Al,” age 90, of Bristol, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Cusson) Edler to whom he has been married for the past 40 years.
Born in Bristol, a son of the late Alvin Edler Sr. and Sarah (Trask) Edler, he was a longtime resident of Bristol.
He enjoyed his time at Colt Memorial High School where he starred in the school play prior to graduating in 1953. He was a tenor in the Barrington Men’s Glee Club. Al worked as a machinist at Dixon and Rico for many years. He enjoyed working part-time as a bartender at the Bristol Golf Course, a driver for the Country Club Cleaners in Warren and a courier for Prima Care. He proudly served in the Army National Guard for 9 years.
Al was a longtime member of the International Order of Oddfellows. He loved traveling, cruises and casinos. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, PC Friars and the Boston Bruins. Al had a great love for classical music, opera and politics. He played golf and cribbage and attended the Bristol Fourth of July Parade every year.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Janice Edler, and her husband David Strippe, of VT; one son, Thomas Edler of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Raymond Edler, and his wife Mary, of Bristol; two step-grandchildren: Holly Shephard, and her husband Kris of VT, and David Strippe, Jr. of ME, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Karen Edler, and brother of the late Iva Blackburn.
His visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, RI. His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Al may be made to Metropolitan Opera House, 30 Lincoln Center Plaza, Attn Development, NY, NY 10023 or to Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice, 438 E. Main Rd., #100, Middletown, RI 02842. Burial private.
