Andrew Allen Rounds

December 5, 1949August 28, 2020

Andrew A. “Andy” Rounds, age 70, of Providence, RI (formerly of Bristol) passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 comforted by his wife. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Meehan Roll, Ed.D. to whom he was happily married for 8 years.

Born in Fall River, MA, Andy was the son of the late Elmer A. and Rhea (Mainville) Rounds. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepson, Gregory Meehan Roll; his sister, Helen “Tina” Barboza, Ph.D.; his brother, Kenneth B. Rounds; and ten nieces. He was the brother of the late Rhea Eshelman and Daniel J. Rounds. A graduate of Bristol High School, Class of 1968, Andy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Rhode Island in 1972. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in Korea during the Vietnam Era.

Andy spent his career working in the food service industry, managing restaurants, including The Newport Creamery, and owning/running Riccotti’s on Federal Hill in Providence until his retirement.

Characterized as a gentleman by all who knew him, Andy was a good, respectful, and honorable man, placing his devotion to family before all else. He chose to live life simply, never craving materialism but, with his wife by his side, he always felt like a rich man. A quiet and easy-going soul, Andy was also a keen observer with a piercing intelligence and an indefatigable, dry wit. Andy consistently led his life congruent to his values, promoting essential kindness and leaving his family and friends with sweet and cherished memories of the legacy he left behind.

In his honor, please consider a random act of kindness to someone in need.

Great memories as a bunch of runts growing up in the Beach Rd-Cliff Dr area in the 60’s, Andy and his wonderful late brother Danny were great neighbors and friends and we always thought of them as possessing extraordinary class and dignity. My most heartfelt condolences to the Rounds family and particularly to my classmate Patricia. May your memories and love of Andy live on in your hearts and give you peace and solace at this time of loss.

Dear Pat,
There are really no words that can convey the sadness Tullio and I felt when we learned that Andy had passed. We remember when you and Andy married and how happy we were, knowing you had found such a wonderful life partner. And, of course, he was pretty lucky, too! He was so funny and charming and we liked him immediately. In fact, you were both lucky to have found each other and to have enjoyed eight happy years together. We just wish it had been much, much longer.
Our thoughts are with you and Gregory during this difficult time. Much love to both of you.

I remember coming to your wedding with my husband, Ron Tippe. We had to bring our 2 pugs who managed to join your reception! Andy was the loveliest man . He was so kind to me when Ron died. Always interested in what I was doing, how my kids were handling it. I grieve with you - and send you much love,

My dear Uncle Andy was such a constant in my childhood visits to Rhode Island. We were lucky to have his kind presence in our lives. One of my earliest memories: When I was very young, he brought my sister and me gifts from Korea: mine was a silk robe and Kelly's was pair of silk pajamas. We always felt special having something so exotic! We both have them to this day.

We also were so happy to be able to attend his wedding to his wonderful wife, Pat, who brought him such happiness.

I've attached a photo of the Rounds children, clockwise from top left: my mother Rhea, Tina, Danny, Kenny and Andy, looking so sweet in his button-down shirt.

Rest in peace, Uncle Andy. You were loved.

I am so sorry to hear of Andy's passing. He, Danny and I were neighborhood buddies and I graduated with Andy. He has always drifted into my thoughts and when I drive down Beach Road to see my old neighborhood, I always check out the flag and the house and wave a hello to all. Prayers to the family.
