Arthur Almeida, “Artie,” age 83, of Bristol, RI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Perry) Almeida, with whom he shared 62 loving years of marriage.
Born in Bristol, Rhode Island, a son of the late Antonio and Mary (Madeiro) Almeida, he was a proud lifelong resident of Bristol.
Arthur had a 30-year career as a construction laborer before retiring. He continued working at Roger Williams University in the Facilities Department until 2008. During his years at the university, Arthur made many treasured friendships.
From the 1980s through 1992, Arthur proudly owned and operated AJ’s French Fries, a food truck well known throughout Bristol, especially during the annual Fourth of July celebrations.
Arthur was an avid bocce player and longtime member of the Hopeworth Bocce League. He always arrived with candy to share. He treasured the friendships, camaraderie, laughter, and friendly competition that made his years there so special.
Arthur was quite the jokester and really enjoyed making people laugh. He had a special way of bringing humor into everyday moments, especially when it came to the family pets. He loved giving them funny nicknames, creating many laughs and cherished memories.
Arthur’s faith was a deeply meaningful part of his life. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a longtime member of New Hope Christian Church in Swansea, Massachusetts, where he served as a deacon. His faith was not simply something he believed—it was something he lived each day through his kindness, generosity, and care for others. Arthur was always ready to lend a helping hand, freely giving his time, talents, and heart wherever they were needed. He found joy in helping others and never hesitated to be there for someone in need. His gentle spirit, giving nature, and willingness to serve were a beautiful reflection of his faith and the love he shared with his church family and all those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Arthur is survived by their two daughters, Wendy Clifford and her husband, Adam, of Bristol, and Laurie Carvalho and her husband, Craig, of Tiverton, RI; three grandchildren, Lauren Souza and her husband, Jared, of Riverside, RI, Jeremy Securo, and William Clifford, both of Bristol; and a great-granddaughter who is expected to arrive soon.
He is also survived by his beloved brother-in-law, Manny Perry, and his wife, Cathy, of Bristol; his brother, David; and his three sisters, Catherine Bradley, Irene Garner, and Evelyn Nappi and her husband, Jack; as well as his dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 21 beloved brothers and sisters.
Arthur’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. at New Hope Christian Church, 1436 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea, MA 02777. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
