Born in LeMars, Iowa, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Hamman) Hinken.
Benjamin was raised on a farm, surrounded by his large family. Two weeks after graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. During his last year of service, he was stationed in Newport where he met his beloved Dora.
In his younger years, Benjamin was a left-handed pitcher for the Bristol Fast Pich Softball League, playing for the Cup Defenders and Swanee River teams. He loved playing golf and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren who meant everything to him.
Survivors include his children, Mark Hinken and his wife Pamela of Rehoboth, MA, and Mary Ellen Gregory and her husband Niles of Bristol, two grandchildren, Mason Hinken and his wife Catina of CT and Lindsey Roberto and her husband Christian of Bristol, three great grandchildren Ivy Roberto, Leo Roberto and Noah Hinken along with many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ed Hinken, Larry Hinken, Richard Hinken, Bonnie Baack, Mary Titus, Margaret Longtin and Dorothy Miller.
