

Carl Bernard Kustell, age 85, of Warren, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Crestwood Nursing Home in the presence of family. He was the beloved husband of Elaine A. (Krebs) Kustell, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage; dearest father of Carl Patrick Kustell (Melissa) of Barrington, and Kimberly Kustell of Niagara Falls; loving grandfather of Jackson, Spencer, and Elliot; loving son of the late Bernard and the late Mary (Ulatowski) Kustell.
Carl was a polio survivor who went on to be an All-Conference high school football player, studied electrical engineering and majored in sociology during college. A graduate of the University at Buffalo Law School where he wrote for the law review, Carl enjoyed a successful career as an attorney for over five decades, successfully representing individuals in premises liability, product liability and medical malpractice lawsuits, among others. He also established new law at the appellate level in several cases. He lectured on law to professional associations and was a proud member of the American Association for Justice, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Bar Association of Erie County and the New York State Bar Association.
Carl was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Clarence, NY. He was known for his outgoing, optimistic personality, irreverent sense of humor and love of family. He enjoyed playing sports, was a voracious reader of history, law, and biographies, and loved music including Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, and straight jazz.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 18th at St. Luke’s Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, RI followed by a short ceremony at North Burial Ground in Providence. Arrangements are in the care of Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main Street, Warren, RI 02885.
