MARTEL, DORIS A. (MONAST), 92, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013. She was the wife of the late Romeo Martel and former wife of the late Frank Rutkiewicz. Born in Warren, RI she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Lumina (Tombley) Monast.

Mrs. Martel was the owner and operator of Rusty’s Variety Store for 25 years before retiring in 1971. She was a member of East Warren All Stars Softball Team and the VFW Women’s Auxillary.

She is survived by her son, Robert F. Rutkiewicz and his wife Dorothy of Warren; sister, Rita Bednartz; and grandchildren, Robert F. Jr. and Rebecca Rutkiewicz, Tyler Williams and Catherine Martel. She was the mother of the late Sandra William; sister of the late Florence Botelho, Lillian Hellew, and William, Raymon, Emile and Ernest Monast; and grandmother of the late Justin Williams.

Her visitation and funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 8:30 AM from the WILBUR-ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 615 Main St. Warren, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Jean the Baptist Church, Main St., Warren. Burial will be in St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery, Vernon St., Warren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. www.wilbur-romano.com.
