Eleanor F. Sickles

Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Leo F. and Roselind L. (Kavanaugh) Meagher, Eleanor was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Class of 1952.

Eleanor’s first job was working as a Candy Striper in the Labor and Delivery Unit of Lying-In Hospital. She then went on to work as an Executive Secretary at the New York Life Insurance Company, Sun Life as well as Miriam Hospital and later as the Treasurer of R.J. Sickles Associates. Most notably, Eleanor was a devoted mother and grandmother and had the honor of raising her children as well as her three granddaughters after their mother’s untimely passing.

Eleanor was a self-proclaimed sun worshiper and beach goer. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii. Eleanor adored babies and had a love for shopping.

Eleanor’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the team of caregivers who showed her extreme care and compassion.

She is survived by her son, Kevin O’Connell and his wife Nancy; four granddaughters, Sarah Griffin, Victoria Clucas and her husband Kevin, Diana Sickles-Sheehan and her husband James and Natalie Bergeron-Keefe and her husband David as well as two great-granddaughters, Eloise Sickles-Sheehan and Kennedy Clucas. Eleanor was the mother of the late Karen O’Connell-Griffin and sister of the late Roselyn A. Meehan.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 9:00 AM from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main St., Warren. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Riverside. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eleanor’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St. #306, Providence, RI 02906.
