Born in Providence, RI, she was a daughter of the late Anthony J. and Isabel (Angell) Izzo of East Providence. She was a longtime resident of both Warwick and Wakefield.
A graduate of East Providence High School, Class of 1964, she earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in 1968 and a Master’s of Arts in Teaching in 1969 both from the Rhode Island School of Design. Freddie was devoted to raising her two daughters. She was a Scout Leader, PTA member and a Softball Booster. A camping planner extraordinaire, Freddie’s list of items necessary for a successful camping trip has been passed down to future generations. When her children came of age, she spent most of her career teaching painting to children and adults in her private art studio overlooking Narragansett Bay. Freddie’s most cherished time was spent with her family and friends traveling, going to the beach and listening to her daughter Becky sing. In retirement, she devoted her time to her grandsons, Gabriel and Julian Gewirtz.
She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Brewster (Aaron Gewirtz) of Wakefield and Rebecca Chace Brewster (Christy Bergeson)of Barrington; her brother, Paul A. Izzo (Deborah); grandsons, Gabriel and Julian; nieces and nephew, Sarah, Jane, Esther and Sam. She is predeceased by her sister Jessica (Izzo) LeBoeuf.
A private gathering will be held this summer. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at Tockwotton. Contributions in Freddie’s memory may be made to Tockwotton on the Waterfront, 500 Waterfront Drive, East Providence, RI 02914.
