Manuel C. Oliveira

Born in Fenais da Luz, São Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Antonio Botelho De Oliveira and Rosa (Do Rego Costa) Oliveira. He spent his childhood in São Vicente Ferreira, a small parish on the north coast of the island.

As a young boy, Manuel worked as a shoemaker before serving in the Portuguese military as a young man in the late 1960’s through the end of the Portuguese Colonial War in 1974. During his years of military service, he traveled to Lisbon, Guinea-Bissau, Angola and Mozambique aiding the military as a police watch guard for the Portuguese Air Force before returning to the Azores. Immigrating shortly after to the United States in November of 1974, he worked as a weaver at Leedon Webbing Company for over 30 years and then as a facilities cleaner at Quaker Fabric Company before his retirement. A soccer enthusiast, he enjoyed watching his favorite team, Benfica. A parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Parish in Warren, he enjoyed walks through town, relaxing in the sun at Warren Beach, gardening, traveling to the Azores and time spent with his family.

He is survived by one sister, Maria Rosa Massa and her husband Edmund of Warren; three nieces, Laura Cavanaugh and her husband Kevin of Coventry, Christine Silva and her husband Jack of Douglas, MA and Susy Gordon and her husband Khari of West Orange, NJ; one great-nephew, Tyler Massa and two great-nieces, Alessandra Massa and Kaylie Silva.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:00AM at Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main Street, Warren. Visiting hours will be Friday, January 3, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
