Dear Donna, Susan, and Brian,
This weekend, I moved to a new house. While helping me unpack, my mother unwrapped the beautiful ceramic coffee creamer and sugar bowl set your mom made for me when I moved into my first house. It made me think of how Shirley's presence will be felt forever in my home through all the wonderful things she made for me and my boys, celebrating so many milestones throughout the years. I do know without a doubt that your mother earned her place in heaven ten times over. She took care of everything and everyone with a spirit, passion and temper that could never be matched in anyone other than her own mother, Ora. And when your dad sat at the table looking up from his book with his jokes and his wit, she was inevitably chasing somebody around that same table (most likely Brian) with a fly swatter. She may have been barely 100 lbs. and 5 feet tall, but we sure did listen to her! And if Donna and Sue tried to come out and play before doing the dusting on a Saturday morning, Shirley would immediately, and very vocally, put an end to that. All the while your dad would sit there calmly, not distracted, never skipping a beat. Those two were hysterical...a perfect love story and clearly a match made in heaven. It does not surprise me that Shirley did not want to stay here in this life without Al for very long. In all your sadness, I hope it comforts you to know that your parents are together now, never to be separated again.
