Ailcey J. Werber, a long-time resident of the DC area, passed away peacefully at home on November 8th, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William W. Werber, on August 19, 2021. Born January 27, 1933 at West Point, Ailcey was the only child of Maj. Gen. Herbert M. Jones and Anabel Hunter Jones. Being an Army brat meant some moving in her formative years until they settled in DC where she attended both High School ('51) and Junior College ('53) at Holton-Arms School. She was forever grateful for her Holton education and experience.
Ailcey lived in Paris for a few years before enrolling at George Washington University to study English Literature. While there, she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Before finishing her degree, she met and married the handsome Bill Werber in 1957 and started a family. On recommendations from friends, they moved to the brand-new neighborhood of Old Farm in Rockville, MD which shaped their lives for the next 54 years. A childhood desire to become a surgeon was somewhat fulfilled when a mutual admiration between doctor and patient led to Ailcey working for 12 years at said neurosurgeon’s office following her recovery from back surgery.
A perennial hostess, Ailcey also enjoyed a robust social life with her numerous friends and cousins, attending galas and themed fundraisers. For years she volunteered at the Florence Crittenton Home. Full of life and charisma, unique in name and personality, Ailcey lived a life that was based on passion and a desire to make others smile. Her cheerful, pleasant demeanor and varied interests ranged from opera to the Orioles, and fashion to fireworks. Classy and kind to everyone, her fun-loving spirit and hip attitude kept her grandchildren enthralled. She valued her roots, education, family, friends, and shoes. She was a romantic, an artist, and an aesthete.
Ailcey is survived by her children, Bruce C. Werber, Cindy Beauregard (John), Scott Werber (Karen), Tracey Werber; and eight grandchildren, William, Charlie, Chris, Jill (Aaron), AJ, Brady, Kyle, and Mikayla.
