Born in Athens Greece, died 14 Oct 2019 in Washington, DC, beloved husband of Nicki Beatty Lagoudakis. A Renaissance Man: champion athlete in high school and college, artist, jazz drummer, graduate degrees, and 1976 American Chess Association Rating Quad System Winner. Alex had an M.S. in Psychological Guidance and Rehabilitation Counseling and a certificate as a psychometrician.
In 1953 Alex received All-Prep honors in football for his work at tackle. In 1954 Alex pinned his opponent in 40 seconds which won he Metropolitan Interscholastic Invitational Wrestling Tournament for St. Albans. The coaches of all of the competing teams voted him the best wrestler of the Tournament. Some of his other awards included:

In the 1950's Alex played jazz drums in some of the house bands at various jazz clubs in Washington, DC. During college in Connecticut Alex and friends formed a band which played at college and private events.
Alex's interest included music, art, ancient history, philosophy, religion and politics. He enjoyed attending concerts at the Library of Congress and exhibitions at the Phillips Gallery, National Gallery of Art, the Museum of American Art, the Hirshhorn Gallery of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
His knowledge of history, politics and international relations allowed him to converse with the diplomats and scholars who visited his parents' home and later with friends and colleagues.
Alex was a kind, compassionate person to friends as well as the family cats Gris-Gris, Mrs. Simpson, and Daisy. He helped care for his father and several years later cared for Nicki's parents, Charles and Antoinette Beatty.
Alex will be greatly missed by his wife Nicki and friends. Burial was 19 Oct 2019 in Rock Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Alex's name to: U.N. High Commissioner on Refugees, Rikki's Refuge for Animals, or Southern Poverty Law Center.
