

On August 27, 2015 Ann Elizabeth Statland passed peacefully in her sleep, after enduring a brave battle against cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Loving daughter of Burns and Hilda Garrett. Ann is survived by her husband Samuel L. Statland, her daughters Robin Ann Robinson, Julie M. Statland-Greenberg, her sons Steven E. Statland, Andrew Burns Statland, her grand-daughters Emily Smarte and Rachel Smarte, and her grandsons Jacob Statland and Noah Statland.
Ann was born in Washington, D.C. on October 11, 1942. She attended Wilson High School and American University and went on to work for the Geico Insurance Company, Woodward and Lothrop, and United Bank. She was married to Sam on May 1, 1977. Ann lived in Kensington, MD and worked for the Montgomery County Board of Elections. She was also an active volunteer with the Montgomery County Democratic Party, The Episcopal Center for Children and Mobile Medical Care, Inc.
Ann's adventurous life took her on many fun and exciting trips, including every state in the U.S., an African safari, and many travels through Europe and the Caribbean. Her love of helping others led to her recently receiving the Montgomery County Central Committee's Dean-Peacock Precinct Official Award. She lived a life full of love, laughter, family, excitement and curiosity.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW (corner of Harrison Street) Washington, DC on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Joseph E. Hagan Memorial Chapel at Joseph Gawler’s Sons on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Rock Creek Cemetery.
