

Arthur Henry Lalos died at St Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL on Oct. 14, 2013 at the age of 103. He was born Jan. 1, 1910 in Delvino, Greece. At age 8 Arthur arrived at Ellis Island with his mother, sister and cousin. During his mother’s grueling immigration interview he passed the time in the bathroom entertaining himself by flushing the toilets and finding running water absolutely amazing. He graduated from Springfield College and worked for many years as Executive Secretary for AHEPA. He has been a loyal member and local officer for over 50 years. He retired after many years in NY, Greece and Virginia in service with the CIA. Arthur was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Bethesda, MD where he managed the book store. He had a love of theater and once rented a live donkey to ride in the church passion play. During the short ride the donkey decorated center stage with many droppings. Arthur was married to Maria Derzis of Sikia, Greece for 65 years. He is survived by his son Harold of St. Petersburg, FL. Arthur will be remembered for his good humor, love of life and willingness to help others. He is deeply loved by many and will be sorely missed. Service will be on Monday Oct. 21, 2013 at 11 am at Greek Orthodox Church of St George in Bethesda, MD. Mr Lalos will be in repose at the church from 10 am until service. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park Rockville, MD. Memorial donations may be made to St George.
