

Athan Peter Anest, was the son of immigrant parents Peter and Paraskavie from Tritea, Greece was born in Newark, NJ on May 29, 1931. He passed away on April 22, 2026 in Washington, DC. His parents, brother Efthimios, nephews Peter and George preceded him in death. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Uncle, He has grandnieces, grandsons and great grandnieces along with many cousins.
Athan moved to Washington DC in October of 1986 with his wife Electra Zolotas-Anest. He was a member of the American legion both in New Jersey and Washington, DC.
He was extremely knowledgeable in classical music and opera, which he listened to every Saturday. Athan enjoyed reading, especially military magazines, the Smithsonian, and Archeology,
He was a sharp target shooter. Enjoyed skiing, playing tennis. fishing and sailing his 32 foot Bristol sailboat the "Chez Nous" up and down the Atlantic Ocean, especially to Block Island and Newport, RI.
Arts and crafts were his passion, with water color as his medium, He participated in many art shows, enjoyed making mobiles and wooden items. While he was teaching, you would find him in the workshop during his free periods.
An AHEPA service will begin at 4:45 PM at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Wednesday May 6, 2026, followed immediately by a funeral service. Burial will take place at a later date at the Saint George Cemetery in Neptune, NJ.
