Barbara was born in Incheon, South Korea on January 5, 1963. After moving from Korea to the United States when she was three years old, Barbara lived in many different places, including Alabama, Tennessee, and Kansas, and developed a deep love of America while also being proud of her Korean heritage. She went to high school in Germany and then went to Indiana University for college.
Following a childhood in which she moved many times, Barbara lived most of her adult life in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington DC. Barbara met her husband, Alan Buzacott, on the Hill in 1992, and they later raised their twins, Julia and Thomas (“Ali”), just a few blocks from where they met. Over the years, her family also included a series of seven Labrador retrievers, which Barbara indulged with many treats. Barbara loved her Hill neighbors and friends, beginning with the friends she met at Eastern Market Pottery almost forty years ago. Barbara worked for the federal government, the D.C. city government, a public relations firm, a trade association and – early in her working life – a furniture store, where she met her best friend.
Barbara was lively and generous. She connected easily with everyone she met, and loved nothing more than a long conversation with a good friend. For her family and friends, she made every day better with funny stories, wise advice, and genuine kindness.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Alan Buzacott; her daughter, Julia Buzacott; and her son, Thomas (“Ali”) Buzacott.
A service of thanksgiving in celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at the Little Sanctuary of St. Albans School, Washington, DC 20016 on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 4:30 PM.
