Barbara Carolyn Stall Hoy was born October 11, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina to Frederick Chalmers Stall and Hazel Harmon Stall and passed away peacefully after battling cancer in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on May 18, 2021.
At the age of sixteen, she and her family moved to Virginia, where she met her future husband, Thomas Larkin Hoy, in high school. Married in 1959, Barbara and Tom raised their two daughters in Bethesda, Maryland. Her accent faded, but she never lost her southern grace and charm. She was known for her kindness and loveliness, and always put other people first.
Throughout her life, she volunteered for the Crippled Children’s Society, the Junior League of Washington, Sibley Memorial Hospital, Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, and Holy Trinity Church.
Barbara was a successful real estate broker from 1972-2005. She began her career at Burr, Morris, and Pardoe; became the sales manager for Prospect Park in Arlington and Prescott at Avenel; and was an Associate with Washington Fine Properties. With her beauty, charm, and market knowledge, she endeared herself to her clients and to everyone else who worked with her.
Barbara had a terrific sense of humor and an elegant style. She was an avid needlepointer, a wicked card player, and a loyal friend. But most important to Barbara was spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren adored her company, her sage advice, and her willingness to always listen. Barbara was incredibly generous with everything, but primarily with her love, and it profoundly affected all around her.
Her husband predeceased her in 2012. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Shiverick (Paul) and Christy Gosnell (Greg), and her grandchildren Gregory, Cale (Lori), Charlotte, Jane (Jed), Charlie, Sam (Ana), and Liza. Her great grandchildren are Oliver, John, and Asa.
Friends may visit at Joseph A. Gawlers on Friday, June 4 from 4:00-7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Washington, D.C. at noon on Saturday, June 5, followed by a private burial.
