She was born in Philadelphia in 1942, daughter to Al and Cecelia Glassman and sister to Janet Baldinger. Barbara graduated from the University of Maryland, before meeting the love of her life, Dan Rosenthal. The two were married in 1967, after which Barbara taught English and drama at Montgomery Blair High School and went on to earn her master’s degree from UMD.
As Dan’s and Barbara’s careers progressed, they lived in Washington, DC, Pittsburgh, PA, Rockville and Potomac, MD, and then back to DC. As a devoted wife and mother, Barbara later became a world-renowned qualitative market research consultant. Her board membership in the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington resulted in awards for distinguished service, placed on her wall near a framed letter from Neil Simon, who praised her for analyzing his comedic styling in a master’s thesis. She was an avid bridge player, an unbeatable Scrabble whiz, an artful fruit salad maker, and a treasure to her many friends and relatives. She loved reading, sudoku, walking along the Potomac River with dear friends, and winning at online word games.
She delighted in watching her six grandchildren, Judy, Adam, and Micah Field and Charlie, Immy, and Jasper Kingsley, grow and excel in sports, performing arts, academics, and community service.
She will be dearly missed by all. A remembrance service will be held on Thursday, July 9 at 1pm at the Judean Gardens in Olney, MD. The family will be sitting shiva at the home of Jane and Andrew Field, 11919 Reynolds Avenue, Potomac, MD, more details to follow.
