Chris George Delis, 97, of Washington, D.C., passed away on March 1, 2025. Born on February 15, 1928, in Rizes, Greece, Chris was the youngest of five siblings and grew up on a cherry orchard where he developed a lifelong passion for gardening. In 1960 he married Niki Kyriazis, the love of his life, and together they moved to the United States. Soon after arriving in Washington DC, Niki and Chris had a son, George, who was the highlight of their life. Chris supported George’s education and attended every school event and sports game, while maintaining two jobs to provide for the family. He played an active role in raising his granddaughter with patience, gentleness, and love that knew no bounds.
A lover of nature, Chris was often in his garden, cultivating everything from tomatoes to fig trees. He had a deep appreciation for the world around him, and was happiest on long walks outside when he could admire the trees, flowers, and hear the laughter of children playing nearby. Chris was known for his positivity, kindness, and sense of humor, and he took great delight in making the people around him smile.
Chris will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His life's work was sharing and spreading the joy that filled him. He was the perfect example of love in action, and everything - from the produce in his garden to the people in his life- flourished in his care.
A visitation will be held at Joseph Gawler's Sons on Thursday March 13, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.
