Cynthia Miller Scherr

Cynthia M. Scherr, age 76, passed away on January 31, 2024 succumbing to both Multiple Sclerosis and Myesthenia Gravis. Born in York, PA, she was a long-time resident of Washington, Mrs. Scherr most recently resided in Gaithersburg, MD. Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, David B. Scherr. She received a degree in International Relations from Goucher College (1969) and a masters degree (International Affairs) from George Washington University (1972). Cindy then had a successful 25-year career at the World Bank, working, first in the office of the VP, West Africa region and subsequently in the office of the Senior VP of Finance.

Cindy and Dave were enthusiastic supporters of University of Maryland athletics, especially the football and women’s basketball programs. Cindy was a long-time member of the Junior League of Washington and was also a dedicated volunteer and supporter of the National Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. (NMSS). Cindy loved to travel and experience different cultures. Cindy was especially close to her cousins, William and Patsy Neff and their family, cousins Beth and Keith Johnson & their family, her brother-in-law Stanley Scherr and many friends. Cindy enjoyed both golf and tennis and was a committed bridge player and part of several bridge groups where she made and maintained a wide circle of friends. Cindy was especially fond of dogs and, in recent years, had owned and loved 3 small dogs. Her current pet, Taffy, will move to Massachusetts to live with family members.

She will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, next to her husband, David.

In advance of that, a celebration of her life will be held near her home in Asbury Village, Gaithersburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers, Cindy asked that donations be sent in her memory to the National Capital Chapter of the NMSS, 1800 M. Street, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20036.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, 3/30/24 at 11 a.m. in Villa 400 (Russell Ave) at Asbury Methodist Village, 201 Russell Avenue Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
