David and my late husband were Yale classmates, ‘ 43. He was an usher in our wedding. ‘49. We have lived in Denver since ‘51 and have kept track of each other mostly long distance , now made easy in our e-world. Such a brilliant man, loved to pass on funny stories and his incisive view of our disturbed planet. His daughter Eldie has been his champ, especially his final years. Will miss him, the last of our Yalies.
Love to Eldie

For the last decade or so, I was a member of a once-monthly group that included David. His wide range of knowledge both foreign and domestic was wide-ranging, and he always made good points. David's wisdom was supplemented by a keen memory of anecdotes and quotations.

And he did not hesitate to make himself the "fall guy" of his stories. He related how he was impressed with the Pittsburgh University football team his last year in prep school, to the point where he announced to family that he intended to attend college there.

His father, Dean Acheson, commented, "Well, David, there are some factors you should consider before making such a decision."

"What factors??" David asked.

"Well," Acheson replied, "if you go to Yale, I will pay your way."

David went to Yale.

Even in his last years, when David was ailing, he retained his good cheer. A fine man, and one who will be missed by all who know him.
