

A fifth generation Washingtonian, passed away on May 15, 2024. She was born January 16, 1943 to S. Greenhoot Fischer and Carol Baer Fischer.
Growing up in Washington, DC, Deane attended DC public schools. She then attended Connecticut College for Women in London, CT where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. After college she lived in Rye, NY while married to Martin Lee Edelman with whom she had two children, before moving back to Washington, where she worked in Congressman Richard Ottinger’s office, pursued a Masters in Business from American University, and secured a degree in nutrition.
A financial advisor to small, women-owned businesses and a volunteer at the Whitman Walker Clinic, Deane was a beloved, active contributor to her neighborhood community and gave generously to multiple charities. She cared deeply about inclusion and helping others navigate life’s challenges.
She is survived by her children: Matthew Edelman and his wife of Santa Monica, CA; Margaret Brohn and her husband of New York, NY. She leaves four grandchildren; her brother, Steven Fischer and his wife; and her sister, Libby Hellmann.
A remembrance will take place at Joseph Gawler’s Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20016 at 1:00 PM on June 3, 2024.
