October 24, 1930 to December 2, 2012
Dolores Langham was born October 24, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia, the oldest child of Ray and Lillian Hicks Langham. Her father passed away when she was 14 years old.. She attended the Girls High School for 3 years, completing her education at Joseph Brown High School in Atlanta. She worked summers in the China Department at Rich’s Department Store and that money contributed to her family’s comfort.
Following High School, Dolores went to work at AT&T in downtown Atlanta, and entered the University of Georgia. After two years, the demands of work and school, took a toll on her, so she left school continuing at AT&T. She also met a young engineer at the office – Paul Reed Guild. “He was an attractive man with glasses that I just loved, and I was fascinated by him. It turns out that while I was being fascinated by his glasses, he was being fascinated by my tan.” Paul and Dolores were married in Atlanta, on March 27, 1954. The couple moved to Cincinnati following their honeymoon.
In 1956, Paul and Dolores were transferred to Jacksonville, FL, Dolores resigned from AT&T and became a full time mother with the arrival of Patricia in December. Two years later, they were transferred again; Paul worked in New York City and the family lived in Chatham, NJ where Mark was born in July of 1960. AT&T moved the family to Falls Church, VA in 1964; then again, to Atlanta in 1968; Dolores loved being close to her mother again even if it was only for two years. The Guild family returned to Chatham, NJ where they lived until 1976, when they moved to Potomac, MD. The family joined Potomac United Methodist Church, and because Paul loved to golf, they joined Lakewood Country Club. Paul retired in 1984 and became the “Cemetery Manager” for the church, while Dolores became the wedding coordinator. Dolores was also active in the Potomac Women’s Club, she volunteered in the gift shop at Sibley Hospital.
2001 was a difficult year for Dolores with the death of her mother; followed by Paul passing away on July 6, 2002. Eventually, Dolores moved to the Gable Manor Court where she was surrounded by wonderful friends.
Dolores is survived by: brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Sandra Langham of Woodstock, GA; sister-in-law, Jeanne Guild Townsend of Traverse City, MI; her daughter, Patricia of Washington, DC; son, Mark his wife Linda, two granddaughters, Katherine and Christa of Bethesda, MD; nephew, Gregg Langham and his wife Samantha of Lawrenceville, GA.
